What Can I Do About Wrinkles Around My Mouth?

What Can I Do About Wrinkles Around My Mouth?

The aging process can be tough. It tends to be most pronounced in areas of your body that are on full display, starting with your face.

While most wrinkles and fine lines belie your age, the ones around your mouth can be especially noticeable, and many of our patients feel that these wrinkles are worse than the others in terms of prematurely aging them.

The good news is that anti-aging solutions have never been easier and more effective, and we’re pleased to offer a range of treatments here at Los Gatos Dermatology

Since we have a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist at our helm — Dr. Bruce Saal — our team understands the science of skin and how best to fight back against the signs of aging.

So if vertical lines have taken up residence around your lips and/or deep lines have formed on either side of your mouth, you’ve come to the right place.

Undoing those vertical lip lines

We can smooth out these telltale signs of aging — also called smoker’s lines — in a couple of different ways.

One of the more effective options are dermal fillers, which we can use to fill in vertical lines. We can also use fillers to plump up the edges of your lips, which does a good job of smoothing out smoker’s lines.

Of the more than 7.6 million filler and lip augmentation procedures performed in the United States in 2023 alone, many were targeting vertical lip lines.

Another way we can tackle vertical lip lines is through microneedling, a technique in which we create tiny microchannels in your skin to encourage collagen production. We boost this treatment with radiofrequency energy to tighten loose skin.

If you consider that you lose 1% of collagen production each year after you hit your 20s, prompting new collagen production is a good way to fight back against wrinkles.

Erasing deep folds and marionette lines

Other common aging issues around the mouth are deepening nasolabial folds — those lines that form parentheses on either side of your mouth. Marionette lines that form at the corners of your mouth and down to your chin often form at the same time as nasolabial folds.

Our dermal fillers are excellent for filling in these deep wrinkles, and they work instantly to smooth out these lines.

We can also turn to laser treatments for nasolabial folds and marionette lines, such as:

Rounding out our anti-aging treatments for marionette lines and nasolabial folds is PDO thread lifts, an innovative technique in which we insert threads under your skin to lift and smooth wrinkles.

So if you’re down in the mouth about the signs of aging around your mouth, rest assured that we have you covered.

To figure out which approach is best for the lines, wrinkles, and folds that have formed around your mouth, we invite you to contact our office in Los Gatos, California, today to set up a consultation.
