Factors To Consider When Removing Your Tattoo

Factors To Consider When Removing Your Tattoo

You were too young, your circumstances (and sentiments) have changed, or the execution leaves something to be desired — these are just some of the reasons why up to 75% of Americans regret at least one tattoo.

Whatever your reason, you no longer want your tattoo and you want to find the most effective removal option.

Here at Los Gatos Dermatology, Dr. Bruce Saal and his team of highly skilled Nurses offer multiple innovative laser technologies that can make your undesired tattoo virtually disappear.

In the following, we explore how these technologies can undo your ink and factors that you should consider when undergoing these treatments.

PicoSure tattoo removal

Thanks to a new understanding of the many applications of laser technology, gone are the days when you had to turn to invasive and uncomfortable surgery to remove a tattoo.

One of the leaders in this arena is Cynosure®, the makers of PicoSure. This system features three different wavelengths of energy that pass through your skin to target your chromophore (the part of the molecule that’s responsible for color).

Thanks to the different wavelengths and lasers, we’re able to effectively target most all ink colors and break them up, allowing your body to flush away the remnants naturally.

Factors to consider when considering laser tattoo removal

Before you embark on laser tattoo removal, we want to point out a few factors you should consider. First, laser tattoo removal often requires a series of treatments — typically 8 or more depending upon the age, type ink used and colors of your tattoo.

We also space these treatments every 8 weeks to allow time for your body to flush away the ink so that we can see what we have left to tackle.

First, certain colors are more difficult than others to get rid of. For example, black is the easiest color, as it responds to all wavelengths. Reds, oranges, and yellows can be more difficult and require a specific wavelength, as do blues and greens.

The bottom line is that our laser tattoo removal technologies are incredibly effective, but it does require some patience on your part while we slowly make the past fade away. In the end, we’re sure you’ll be delighted with your results.
